What To Compare Among Treadmills

Treadmills can be the best choice in exercise equipment for most people. Users can use it to either walk or run tin the comfort of their own homes. Treadmills don't require movement of your hands or take up large amounts of space in the home. With programmable and interactive treadmills, you can concentrate on other things while you go through the motions of getting your exercise. The programs can adjust the intensity keep your heart at a preset target rate.

Fitness experts and novice beginners can both benefit from the use of treadmills. Here are four options to distinguish one treadmill from another.

Motor

A motor is the most important consideration in the purchase of a treadmill. Most treadmills operate on DC electric motors because they are easier to control speed and resistance with electric current. Horsepower ratings on the motors will range from 1.5HP to 5HP, with the larger motors costing more. For occasional home use, a 2HP motor should be sufficient.

Running Deck

The deck is where the activity takes place. You must have one that is comfortable and safe for you to use. Running decks have rollers at each end to hold the belt that moves over a wooden or fiberboard. The board is designed to have some spring to it to reduce the impact factor for injury. You should consider at least a 60" length and 20" width to allow room for running safely. For larger people, larger decks are required.

Frame

Treadmill frames should be steel or aluminum only. Plastic and wood frames will not hold up to the continual pounding without failing.

Console

The console controls all the functions of the treadmill. The minimum requirements for controls are to display your speed, pace and distance. Other features would be for personal preference or impressive technology.

Once you have made sure you have the basic controls covered, you can consider options such as programmable workouts, incline settings, maximum speed settings up to 12 mph, safety features that shut the machine off quickly when necessary, heart rate monitors that fit on your chest or finger and entertainment functions such as radio, cd or tv that can help pass the time.

The most confusing part of buying a treadmill is due to the extras, options and technical jargon used on each machine. Pinpoint what your requirements are and then find a machine that meets those requirements. You will have the perfect exercise machine for your home.
